Dr. Mellon is a native of Gaston County, and graduated from East Gaston High 草榴社区. She holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a master's degree in 草榴社区 Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs.

Dr. Mellon's career in education began as a high school Civics and Economics teacher at Hunter Huss High school. After teaching four years, Dr. Mellon was accepted into the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program. She continued to work at Hunter Huss High 草榴社区 providing student services, while completing her master's degree in 草榴社区 Administration. Dr. Mellon started her administrative career at Bessemer City Middle 草榴社区 approximately 15 years ago as a principal intern.  Following this, she served as an assistant principal at Grier Middle 草榴社区, North Gaston High 草榴社区, and Lowell Elementary 草榴社区 She then served as principal at Bessemer City Middle 草榴社区 before returning to Grier Middle 草榴社区 in 2024.

Dr. Mellon is the mother of a beautiful 17 year old daughter who is entering the twelfth grade. She states being a mother has been the most valuable experience in teaching what is truly important when it comes to education - the well-being and safety of children.
